## ITINERARY

### A small beautiful village

We will start our tour by visiting a beautiful well-hidden village, Margarites. The tradition of pottery has been an integral part of this village for many generations; there are lots of locals who still keep the tradition alive, up to this day, by transforming the traditional practice of pottery into modern art. In Margarites, we will meet our friend Yorgos, a local, who will show you how the pots are hand thrown. A demonstration of his art will follow, that will certainly stay “carved” in our memory. The village itself has a unique architecture and some lovely narrow winding streets, making it worth being explored. So, let’s wander through the quiet village of Margarites, enjoy the hundreds of colors that lie before our eyes and then enjoy a traditional coffee at a small “kafeneio”.

### Feel the sanctity of Arkadi

After a 25' drive, we will continue to the religious and historical part of our tour. The goal is to become familiar with the Cretan culture and its religious customs. The Arkadi monastery is perhaps the best known monastery in Crete, due to its history of the Holocaust in 1866. However, its location and impressive architecture make it all more special. For everyone who visits the Arkadi monastery, the feeling is unique; serene and quiet, but also emotionally powerful. Dedicated to Saint Constantine, the church of the monastery is just exceptional. The monastery in general is full of flowers, so many that it is impossible to list them all, but the rose garden especially is extraordinary. Let’s not skip the museum chambers as well; there, we will find many photographs of historically important people, such as Hadjimichalis Giannaris, who during the revolution helped to ignite the patriotism and the anger of the Cretans. We will escort you to explore this magnificent monument, discuss about the history and less-known stories, but, since our guides are not official state guides, it is forbidden for them to give tours inside historical monuments. If you wish to have an official history guide, we will be happy to book one for you upon communication!


### Let’s explore the nature of Crete

Next up, is the gorge of Patsos. A small yet magnificent gorge, which begins at Ano Assites, is the necessary part to complete this excursion. The whole area around the gorge is of particular natural beauty. In the gorge, we can see rare species of flora and fauna, which are protected by the European legislation. As we walk onto the beautiful path, we will meet the attraction of the cavernous church of St. Anthony inside the rocky walls, which used to be a former temple of Hermes. If we want, we can stop at this point or even sooner, and head back for our return. If not, continuing from there, we will follow the trail to the ‘Potamon” dam. On the sides of the gorge there is an observation deck for birds in the area as well. During the biggest part of our hike, there is enough shadow and water to keep us cool; also, the feeling of walking under so many trees and next to running waters is unique! Usually, to complete the route, we will hike for about 3 1/2 hours, but depending on the weather and the physical condition of the travelers, we could hike more or less. It’s really up to you to choose how much walking we will do! It is also up to you to pick your favorite place to have a pic-nic with the best Cretan snacks and some wine or raki.When we decide to return, we follow the same path and end up at the starting point of the gorge.

Escape to Parnitha’s National Park on a semiprivate safari tour for up to 6 persons per vehicle. Mount Parnitha is a densely forested mountain range 40 km north of Athens. Our day starts from Rethymnon city heading south east through coast line road until Melidoni Village and Apithano Honey factory where we make our first stop for a guided tour in the factoiry and tast some honey. After our morning stop and driving through the traditional villages of Milopotamos (Melidoni, Apladiana, Doxaro, Agridia,Tsaxiana) and areas with dense vegetation, fresh aromas and unique views. The amazing route and views continue until we reach the historic Halepa Monastery, that used to be a refuge for Cretan rebels during civil wars where we make our second stop. The unique view from the monastery will inspire you to take pictures, combining the highest mountain tops of Crete with the beautiful valley.

Afterwards our amazing off-road route continues and on the way up to the shepherd’s hut called “Mitato” the panoramic views will take your breath away. The road will lead us up to a traditional Shepherd’s hut where you will find out all about the lifestyle of a shepherd and the cheese making process. 

Leaving the shepherd’s hut and already working up our appetite we will soon arrive at a traditional Cretan tavern in Axos village, where we are going to introduce you to Cretan cuisine and heartfelt hospitality with plenty of local platters. Our day starts from Chania moving south to reach the big orange valley. In a few minutes we will be inside the valley moving southwest through orange trees and farming areas, full of aromas and tastes. Crossing the valley we will encounter the villages of Varipetros, Agia, Alikianos, Fournes and start climbing on altitude through an offroad route, with dense vegetation and the best panoramic view of Chania, we reach Lakoi village for our coffee break.

Reaching an altitude of 1000m our adrenaline will raise while we continue our off-road route through the heart of the White Mountains, crossing the unknown shepherd's paths, filling ourselves with the fresh air and magical scenery of the wild vegetation, livestock and breathtaking landscapes. ## Description

Discover the secrets of wine, olives and Cretan tastes in a premium semi private safari tour introducing you to the daily Cretan life style and some of its most valuable treasures. This tour will take you though many villages and beautiful landscapes.

Our day trip safari to the depths of the Cretan culture begins after we pick you up from your hotel or accommodation and heading towards Biolea olive mill in the village of Astrikas for an informative tour and olive oil tasting. Continuing our day tour we visit Karavitakis winery for a mouthwatering wine tasting experience accompanied by interesting information, for example the secrets of high longevity in Crete! Then we head to the village of Ano Vouves to marvel up close the ancient olive tree which is 3000 years old and learn about the history of olives.

Our adventure off-road route starts heading towards Sebronas village and as we cross a gorge with a picturesque creek nestled amongst lush vegetation and panoramic views. There, on our way through the gorge we will have plenty of opportunities to take photos of picturesque chapels, sheep, goats, bees, sprawling vineyards and gorgeous olive groves.

After working up an appetite we arrive at a small village tavern in Nea Roumata, where we will introduce you to the Cretan cuisine with plenty of local platters and let you feel the very essence of the renowned Cretan hospitality. On the way back we will follow an easy asphalt route through orange and lemon trees before reaching back to our hotels.

## Don't Forget

Don’t forget your face masks, comfortable shoes, for example trekking shoes or sandals, camera, sun protection, etc. During spring and autumn, we advise you to bring a jacket. 

The trip is not recommended to people suffering from car sickness, having mobility or kinetic or back problems, pregnant women or for children younger than 7 years old as we don't provide baby seats, or people taller than 195 cm or heavier than 130 kg. Alcohol consumption is not allowed to minors under age of 18 years old. Operators reserves the right to make minor changes in the program when considered necessary, for example, in case of unfavourable weather conditions. This can be done without any prior notice. 

Reservations must be done no later than 24 hours prior to departure. Any cancellation must be made according to our cancelation policy. In case of late cancellations, no refund will be granted from Operator. If a tour is cancelled due to insufficient number of participants or adverse weather conditions, Operator will refund 100% of made payments.

## Adventure Tips

The trip is ideal for everyone who's looking for an experience beyond the ordinary, for example youth groups, single or couple participants, families with older children, and companies.

The trip has guided stops every 30-40 minutes, for everyone's convenience.

When meals are included, Operators can arrange vegetarian alternatives, but information is required upon reservation. This also counts for any kind of food allergies, in order to find suitable alternatives if possible.

**_In detail_**_:_

**Before Your Tour**:
- We recommend that you should be at the pick-up area (your hotel or another indicated point nearby your hotel) 10 minutes prior to your pick up time. Our driver/escort will be on time to welcome you and show your seat, in order to keep social distancing guidelines.
- Our vehicles are filled up according to governmental covid-19 law of their capacity. Those governmental laws and regulations against covid-19 infections might change, but are strictly followed at all times.
- The body temperature and wellness of all those participating in the tour (escort, driver, staff and guests) will be monitored daily, excluding and maintaining in quarantine any who display fever or other symptoms.

**On Board**:
- Please follow all the instructions given to you by your guide.
- Sanitising dispensers are available at each vehicle.

**During Your Tour**:
- Everybody that is taking part in the tour (escort, driver, guests etc...) will wear face mask throughout its duration as long as it is required by law.
- Sealed lunch boxes will be given on some of our day tours. On day tours which include meals served at restaurants, those will be provided only at restaurants following all the applicable hygiene protocols

**Enhanced Vehicle Cleaning**:
- The average cleaning effort in all vehicles is doubled both during the day and after the end of each tour.
- All sensitive touch areas such as seats, armrests, sidewalls etc. are intensively cleaned and sanitised daily before and after each tour.

**Air Circulation On Board**:

Our vehicles are equipped with A/C (and when used, the internal air circulation is turned to OFF) but as our safari tours are mainly operated in country side we strongly recommend the tours to be conducted with open windows for continuous fresh air circulation and to feel the freshness of the countryside.

**Our Staff**:

Our staff is trained in the latest hygiene protocols and cleaning procedures. They use personal protective equipment (face masks/shields and optional gloves) to ensure a safe travel experience for you and themselves.
